The Soggy Dollar is one the coolest and most happening hang-outs on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands. This fun, funky beach bar is always in party mode–but it’s not like any bar you’ve ever been to in the states. Soggy Dollar is more like a beach party, complete with lots of hammocks between the trees and an army of beach chairs you can drag to the water and relax in the gentle surf, Painkiller in hand.
The Soggy Dollar got its name honestly. During days before roads were paved on the island (not long ago at all), the only way patrons got to the Soggy Dollar Bar was to swim in from White Bay. Wet bills in their pockets would become…well…soggy.
And for those who think the word “bar” in Soggy Dollar Bar means too crazy for the kids, no worries…this establishment is fun for the whole family. It’s the essence of a relaxing day at the beach, with great music, laid back vibe, boats, hammocks, Frisbee, bar-be-ques, dogs, and Painkillers –the BVI’s unofficial official drink. You’ve got to try a Painkiller — or 3!
Hardcore Soggy Dollar Bar patrons can even sign up for the “Painkiller Club” online. A free membership club that offers exclusive use of unoccupied hammocks (occupied ones are available at your own risk), unlimited access through the VIP door (Soggy Dollar has no door…), and a member card that gets you, “anything you can get away with by flashing this card to any bartender in the world.” Good luck with that one! But VIP status aside, everyone can experience “Caribbean at its finest” on Jost Van Dyke, so leave your cellphones at home, grab your swim trunks and get some island time at Soggy Dollar!
